When soft washing is the right call
If your surface is hard and sound, pressure cleaning is usually quicker and cheaper. Soft washing earns its place in these situations.
- The surface is soft or porousTimber, decking, limestone, sandstone, render and paint. Pressure damages all of them, and the damage is permanent.
- It has gone green or black rather than just dirtyMould and algae are living growth. Force removes the visible part and leaves the rest behind.
- It came back quickly last timeThe usual sign that whoever did it last blasted it off rather than killing it.
- A shaded south-facing wallLittle sun, slow drying, and the perfect conditions for mould. These need the chemistry rather than the pressure.

0458 694 984What is soft washing, in plain terms?
Low pressure water carrying a cleaning solution. The solution kills the mould, algae and lichen and is left to work for a while, then rinsed off gently. The chemistry does the cleaning rather than the force, which is why it suits surfaces that high pressure would damage.
Why not just pressure wash it and save money?
On sound concrete or brick, do exactly that, it is cheaper and quicker. On timber, decking, limestone, render or paint, pressure causes damage that cannot be undone, and the growth returns anyway because the roots survive.
Will it hurt my plants?
Not if it is done properly. We wet plants down before we start so the solution cannot soak in, cover anything close to the work, and rinse the surrounding area afterwards. Tell us about anything precious and we will take extra care with it.
How long does it last?
Longer than a pressure wash, because the growth is killed rather than blasted off. Industry experience puts it at a year or more, often longer on sunny walls and less on shaded southern ones. We will not give you a guaranteed figure, since it depends on your property.
Do I need to be home?
No. We need yard access and an outdoor tap. Keep windows closed and pets inside on the day, and let us know if anything needs moving.

Does the surface look clean straight away?
Mostly, yes. Some dead growth on heavily contaminated porous surfaces continues to break down and wash off over following weeks, so it can keep improving after we leave.
Can you soft wash a roof?
Yes, and it is often the right method for older or brittle tiles. That is covered on our roof cleaning page, and every roof clean includes a gutter clean at no extra cost.
Can I bundle it with gutters or a driveway?
Yes, and it works out cheaper. Booking more than one service takes 5% off the whole price, and one visit means one call out instead of two.
